Diablo 3 Patch Maintenance
Hey,I was bored at work and just started looking at. My two centsGood:- Diablo 3 still having patches, seasons, etc. I am very glad that blizzard still working with a game that hasn’t microtransactions or subscriptions- I bought D3 on switch and I was impressed how good the port is. It’s really good to play it meanwhile traveling for example but I prefer playing on PC- D2 and D3 communities are amazing.
Community creating challenges (Holy Grail D2), streamers, tutorials, etcBad:- Diablo inmortal was slap in the face of the Diablo community- No news from Blizzard of any “multiple projects” and we are 5 months after Blizzcon. Diablo 4?, Diablo 2 Remastered?, nothing, nada.- lot of people moving to POE and other great ARPGs and sites like DiabloFans closing. D4 really should be the near future.
After all, it seems like the story that they killed the next D3 expac about the same time that RoS launched appears to be true, and that's when they started up on D4, which has been 5 years now. However, it appears that Blizzard's development process is fairly broken, and 5 years isn't enough to announce the next version of a game. They reportedly went in the direction of a Dark Souls like D4 led by Josh Mosqueira, but that got scrapped when Mosquiera left.As far as D3, I think the best thing they could do is go to 2 month seasons, even if there isn't new content. I don't think anything they do keeps the playerbases attention for 3 months, let alone 4 months.
I think all plans that require much development effort for D3 are bad plans on Blizzard's part. It's just a waste of time for a game that you can't monetize at this point in its lifecycle. I think the franchise is on the decline. Mobile games are very popular in Asia, and of course Asia has far more people than North America. They followed the money with DI, and it leaves me with no confidence that quality will ever be important to them again. They'll make what they believe will make them the most money, even a mobile game.My hope is that D2 is updated with modern graphics and a few quality of life features. I don't have faith they'd get anything else right or even try to.
Do you think we're gonna get a nice looking and playable Diablo IV in the short term? No, sorry. Maybe in 2-3 years. I think it has a long way to go, and I think blizzard is panicking about how poorly Immortal was received. They're likely (or at least hopefully) redesigning a lot of content or planned content due to the overwhelming negative feedback it got.Do you think they're gonna keep Diablo III on maintenance mode with «little-big» patches like 2.6.5?It's dead, I'm sorry.
They tried to compete with PoE when they released the necromancer DLC, and they got incredibly smacked down for it when PoE the biggest expansion they've ever made, for free. Diablo 3 will get rehashed seasons and then quietly die. What do you expect or think about Diablo: Immortal?Personally I found Diablo 3 a diluted Diablo experience, which lacked what I wanted from a Diablo game, and since immortal is based on that, and it's adding everything I hate about mobile gaming. I'm expecting it to be complete trash.. 1) D4 short term? Blizz will think twice before showing us crap again.
It will take a lot of time to make something nice, and during that time they will be silent because they also learned to STFU instead of making problems worse.2) D3 maintenance? I don't expect more than seasonal gimmicks and occasional balance patching (skills/items). Don't hold your breath for new mechanics or real content.3) Immortal? Game is Dead On Arrival. I'm sure plenty of people will try it out when it launches, but it won't keep people's attention and die out pretty quick. From what we've seen so far, it will literally offer nothing new. Not even portability, because the Switch version of D3 already has that.DO YOU GUYS NOT HAVE PHONES?
No sorry Blizzard, I don't own a Samsung Galaxy 14 or an Apple iPhone 20. Those phones cost a thousand dollars and I'd rather put that money towards upgrading my computer or buying a new one. Diablo 3 on switch is a fantastic port and really a phenomenal game. Being able to either play it on my TV or take it to work, or out and about with the family, this is awesome.
So my hope is that diablo 4 launches on switch (or switch HD if Nintendo releases one). I don't care about the art style one way or another, so if they do try to make it darker and less wow-like, I hope it can still be downgraded enough to get solid 60 fps on switch like diablo 3.I don't care about phone games so I have zero interest in immortal. They can do whatever with it. I think generally people are just worried that the shitty phone game will take away dev time and resources from the real game. No Diablo 4 announcement this year - total continued silence on that front.BlizzCon 2019's Diablo content will be 100% dedicated to Diablo: Immortal full reveal - with release shortly afterwards. They have a Warcraft expansion announcement this year so they won't undercut it with a Diablo 4 announcement.Next year, depending on the success of Diablo: Immortal - if it's a success, they will probably announce an expansion for that one and begin working on Diablo: Immortal 2.
If it bombs, then they will most likely just shelve the entire Diablo franchise as unprofitable.Diablo 4 would just end up just being Diablo: Immortal 2, ported to PC. Or it will be cancelled internally and since they never announced it, they simply will act like it never existed. I'd be shocked if there's not a Diablo IV announcement this year at Blizzcon.
Remember before the Diablo Immortal fiasco there were the couple of videos from Blizzard basically stating that good things would come to those who wait. I don't believe they were talking about Diablo Immortal, they were talking about Diablo IV.
Diablo 3 Patch Maintenance System
Unfortunately when they announced Diablo Immortal most people took that as meaning rather than Diablo IV. I don't believe that's the case but the damage had already been done.
They made a mistake. They won't make the same mistake again at the next Blizzcon. I don't care how much you're pissed at Blizzard for that mistake, they are still one of the top game developers in the business and will continue to support the existing franchises. It's not an either/or proprosition, they can go after the mobile gamers and still continue to develop great PC/console games.
As we’ve previously indicated, we will be resetting the current Era in light of the balance changes coming in Patch 2.6.7a. Messaging will be available in-game to indicate that the leaderboards are unavailable.
We advise against attempting to clear new records until maintenance has ended—we’ll update this thread once the Era has finished resetting. Thanks for your patience and understanding, and we’ll see you in Patch 2.6.7a!
