It has now covered 115,000Km without a breakdown. I have owned it for 5 years and now need to get something bigger to hold two small children, bikes, kitchen sinks etc. It's recently had its second timing belt change along with water pump & sundries. Mechanically sound with a few cosmetics needing attention. A couple of small worn patches in the leather on the driver's side. A couple of paint chips but no dents. Sold with Workshop Manuals, spare parts & fitted car cover. What's wrong? Noisy left-hand side cooling fan. Headlamp vertical aim not functioning.
Boot release intermittent.

Before this time much of this kind of information was not known without contacting the factory, or chances some paperwork remained with the car since manufacture.In 1977 (with the introduction of the 911SC) the VIN tag or chassis tag was used on all Porsche models, as a way to have more information avaliable to owners.This tag is found in different places for each model ( under front trunk lid of 911, and rear trunk floor for 928, 944 cars for example ) The same tag was also placed in the warranty/service booklet that resides with the owner's manual.

The information on the tag includes VIN number, vehicle type, engine and transmission type and serial numbers, as well as the optional equipment as it left the factory.Below is a table of known options, the three digit codes listed are used throughout the late 70s to present day, also known in literature, parts manuals, etc. As M-codes ( i.e.
